Ideal clients are Christians who can recognize a need within themselves, and then seek help.  This is not as easy as it sounds.  Introspection is difficult for some people.  Others may recognize that they need help, but never seek out those who can assist them for a myriad of reasons, e.g. pride, finances, time, etc.

Jesus told the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18.  Both were in the temple praying to God.  The Pharisee prayed, "I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially like that tax collector over there! For I never cheat, I don't sin, I don't commit adultery, I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income."  However, the tax collector (tax collectors were despised during Jesus' day) beat his chest in sorrow and prayed, "O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner." Jesus told them that the tax collector, not the Pharisee,  would return home justified before God.  Then, Jesus declares, "For the proud will be humbled, but the humble will be honored."

The tax collector is the type of client we are looking for. We find it difficult to help those who have done everything right in their own eyes. Attitude is everything!  Being honest and humble enough to acknowledge where you are, releases God's grace for true change in your life. Ideal clients are also those who can embrace the process of change God's way, even when they don't understand God's ways. They display an unusual tenacity to love and obey God, no matter what.

Naaman the leper, and captain of the army of the king of Aram (2 Kings 5) probably would not have been an ideal client.  He recognized that he had a need (leprosy), sought help, but refused to embrace the process of change.  When Elisha the prophet told him that in order to be healed, he had to wash in the Jordan River seven times, Naaman was enraged.  He had his own pre-conceived idea of the change process which would required nothing from him.

Naaman thought that Elisha would come out, stand, call on the name of the Lord, then wave his hand over him.  Naaman's servants had to convince him to submit to the process.
