What is a Blog?
The term blog is actually a blending of the words web and log. Over time the two words combined to become weblog, and eventually simply blog. A blog is defined in the dictionary as "a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer."
In simplest terms, a blog somewhat like an online diary. But instead of recording thoughts in journal, the writer posts his or her inspirations on the World Wide Web, hoping that readers across the globe will take a look at what they have to say, and maybe even leave a comment.
Why We Blog
We blog under the publishing name of Great Light Press. We blog to fulfill our own mandate from the Lord to become end-time scribes to the body of Christ. As you recall from the the reading of the Word, the scribes during Jesus' days on earth were zealous guardians of the law. They demanded respect, and over-burdened God's people with rules and regulations.
Jesus says of the scribes in Mark 12:38-40:
"Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they love to parade in flowing robes and to have everyone bow to them as they walk in the marketplaces. And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and at banquets. But they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property, and then, to cover up the kind of people they really are, they make long prayers in public. Because of this, their punishment will be the greater."
We have been called by Jesus as scribes who have been instructed concerning the gospel of the kingdom (Mark 13:52). We seek, follow, learn, and teach from the old and the new of our Master Teacher, Jesus Christ. Blogging is another means for us, as Jesus' disciples, to make disciples.
